Your Role as a Parent

When it comes to making career decisions, you are one of the first people your child will turn to for help. Within your role as a parent or guardian, you should be able to assist your child with the help that they need. We understand that parents come from diverse backgrounds as of the child and many parents tend to unconsciously live their ambitions through their children. We live in a very technologically driven world that requires very different things from a new generation. It is of the utmost best that before you start to have a conversation with your child about their future, you reflect about the purpose of the conversation you want to have with them. This will help you to communicate clearly with them by being open minded without judging or making a decision for them.

As a parent you need to be enlightened and knowledgeable about the changing times that we are living in and be involved in your child's studies/academics so that you are able to support the child to make well informed decisions. Involvement in your child's studies creates that awareness about their progress and where they might be a gap. By being involved you are able to bridge the gap and seek further assistance for your child from teachers, family member, counsellors or other resources to enhance their career development. It is important to reassure that your child knows that your door is always open should they need any assistance. This creates an open space to have a conversation with them about different aspects that might impact their life or studies.

Learn to make good remarks about what your child is good at, this will build their confidence and it will encourage them to work on challenges they may encounter. We will show you how to use the Careerhelp website and its content to advise and support your child regarding subjects and career choices. You will feel confident in supporting them to make important decisions.
