Job Fit

Being fit to join the employment market has many implications. For one individual it may mean having a ready CV and having interview skills, for another individual it may mean being able to get and sustain employment. Although all these thoughts are valid, One needs to have a clear understanding of what to expect when they join the job market, what they need to do in order to progress within the job market and have a clear understanding about what level they are in within their career. They also have to have a good understanding of where they want to go too.

Ways to prepare for job opportunities:

Volunteering

Volunteering refers to a person offering a service willingly and without pay. Volunteering is an opportunity to acquire work experience which is a requirement in most work opportunities.This can be done at non-profit organisations, public and private companies etc.

 

Job Shadowing

Job shadowing refers to a program where learners, students or adults can learn about a particular career or profession to see if it might be suitable for them. The process is temporary exposure to the workplace.

 

Finding a mentor

A mentor refers to a guide who can help the mentee to find the right direction and solutions to career issues. A mentor helps the mentee to believe in self and boosts confidence. Mentoring has been found to increase students' academic success, social skills, self-efficacy, and the ability to refine their professional dispositions.
