Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) Youth

The National Youth Policy 2020 defines youth as those falling within the age group of 14 to 35 years.

The acronym N.E.E.T refers to individuals who are not in any form of employment, education or training.

The current situation NEET youth find themselves in may attributed to the eminent demand side and supply side issues associated with various industries in South African economy. The demand side problem results from a limited number of jobs created within the economy creating a situation where there is a small number of people that can be employed. On the other hand the supply side problem results from the youth not having the relevant industry skills that are in high demand or in short supply within the various industries.
